Holotropic Breathwork is a powerful process that allows deep self-exploration, transformation, and healing at all levels of self.
Drawing on ancient healing and spiritual practices, Holotropic Breathwork uses the power of your breath and evocative music to help you access a non-ordinary state of consciousness. That state opens one to the inherent healing intelligence or wisdom that is within the universe and within each of us. This brings to us just what we need at that time for our growth, healing, and spiritual unfolding. Thus, the experience is unique to each person and each breathing session.
The Breathwork helps one to access all levels of human experience including personal biographical, perinatal, and transpersonal. Thus, it enables you to journey into the deepest aspects of Self, Spirit, and the Universe.
Holotropic Breathwork was developed by Dr. Stanislav and Christina Grof, and combines insights from ancient spiritual practices, modern consciousness research, and depth psychology. The word Holotropic means "moving toward wholeness".
This is highly experiential work that is offered either in group settings or in private sessions for individuals or couples. In the standard group setting, people work in pairs and alternate in the roles of experiencer and sitter.* (You do not need to come with a partner.) Thus, there are two Breathwork sessions in the course of one workshop. The sitter's role is to act as witness and to assist the breather as needed, but not to interfere in the process. The facilitators also honor and allow the breather's inner healing intelligence to guide the process. assisting only as needed. Focused release work is also used as needed within the session, to allow release of blocks in the body or to facilitate the ongoing process. Other important components of Holotropic Breathwork are mandala drawing and group sharing, to help integrate and complete the Breathwork process.
*In a modified, half-day format, there is no partnering; the workshop is limited in size and all participants breathe at once, with 2 or more people facilitating.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: heart problems, high blood pressure, severe mental illness, recent surgery or fractures, acute infectious illness, epilepsy, glaucoma, pregnancy. If you are unsure if this work is contraindicated or might need to be modified for you, please call to discuss your concerns.
